O’Connor scare over

Hibernian striker Garry O’Connor will be fit to face St Mirren on Sunday, according to manager Pat Fenlon.

The club’s top goalscorer caused concern when he limped off early in the second half of Hibernian’s 1-0 Clydesdale Bank Premier League defeat by Kilmarnock on Sunday, which kept them in relegation danger.

But Fenlon told Hibernian TV: “It’s just a kick on the ankle area. Garry didn’t train today, but he should be okay for the weekend. The injury is not of major concern at the moment.”

The Irishman played down fears O’Connor had suffered a recurrence of the toe injury that hampered him earlier in the season. “It’s the outside of the ankle, there was a little bit of swelling after the game,” he said. “Garry did some pool work and he should be okay to train, if not tomorrow then on Friday.”

On-loan Stoke midfielder Tom Soares could also be fit for the St Mirren Park clash after missing the Kilmarnock game with an Achilles problem. “Tom did some pool work, like Garry, and came through okay, so we’re hopeful he’ll be okay for the weekend as well,” Fenlon said.
