‘No way’ Leigh Griffiths will make Hibs return

WOLVES chief executive Jez Moxey has reiterated that Scotand international Leigh Griffiths will not return to Easter Road after confirming that there was “no way” the striker would leave Molineux.

Wolves were relegated to League One last season and will look to Griffiths to help mount a promotion push in England’s third tier.

Moxey has suggested that Griffiths could become a valuable asset for the club - both in the immediate and long-term future, citing the example of Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher, who Wolves sold to the Wearside club for £12 million last summer.

“He will absolutely be coming back here to play for us next season,” said Moxey.

“We have taken up the one year option on his contract, so he is with us and we will be working him.

“There is absolutely no way that Wolverhampton Wanderers has any interest other than having Leigh Griffiths here in the summer training with us in preparation for a League One campaign.

“He scored a lot of goals for Hibs and they are the one commodity that everyone wants so why on earth wouldn’t we want to keep him?”

Moxey also admitted that Griffiths had not been given a chance during his first spell at Wolves. The striker, who scored 28 goals for Hibs and was awarded the SPL Player of the Year and the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year.

“Some people have said that he was not given a chance in the last year or so and that is perhaps a fair accusation to make.

“So he is going to be given a chance now.”
