Midfielder McGinn made the step up to the full international scene when manager Gordon Strachan handed him his chance for last month’s Hampden friendly with Denmark.

McGinn, 21, was named man of the match after a mature display against the likes of Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen, leaving club colleague Cummings full of admiration. But now the 20-year-old forward wants to tick off his own ambition of pulling on a dark blue jersey at senior level.

The Scotland Under-21 cap said: “I was delighted when John got his call-up. I was like a proud uncle, so I was, watching him run out there. It’s one of my targets to get a full call-up. It’s on my bucket list. Hopefully one day.

“I just want to see how far I can get in my career and try to test myself. If I concentrate on my football and enjoy it, everything else will take care of itself.”

Cummings hit his 24th goal of the season in Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Rangers as he injected some fresh momentum back into Hibs’ play-off bid.

He could also end the season with a Scottish Cup winner’s medal if they can repeat the trick by beating Mark Warburton’s team in next month’s final.
