Hibs re-sign Towell

RICHIE Towell yesterday returned to Hibs on a season-long loan from Celtic, and faces a hostile reception on Sunday when he begins his second spell in Colin Calderwood’s side with a derby day trip to Tynecastle.

Towell upset Hearts supporters prior to an Edinburgh derby last season when he accused some Gorgie fans of targeting him when he visited Tynecastle with Celtic, claiming he had been verbally abused because he is an Irish Catholic.

The 20-year-old made 16 appearances for Hibs last season after moving to Easter Road in January, also on a loan and his return gives Calderwood a much-needed option in the right-back area.

Dublin-born Towell said: “I’m really happy to be heading back to Hibernian – I enjoyed every minute of my time at the club last season.”
