Hibs braced for daunting top-six fight

SCOTT ROBERTSON insists Hibs must shrug off their sense of injustice over the disallowed goal which cost them victory in the Edinburgh derby and instead train their focus on sealing a spot in the SPL’s top six.

The Easter Road side were left fuming on Sunday when Leigh Griffiths’ stunning 
35-yard free-kick was ruled not to have gone in, despite television replays showing that the ball had travelled at least a yard over the line. Hibs have just three matches in which to secure their place in the top half of the table and dropping two points against Hearts has made their task more difficult.

They currently sit sixth in the SPL but have just a one-point advantage over seventh-placed Dundee United – and are due to play three teams above them in the league in their three 
remaining matches before the split. Pat Fenlon’s men travel to Fir Park on Friday night to face second-place Motherwell before playing host to Inverness, who sit fourth, the following weekend.

They round off the fixtures before the split with a trip to Parkhead to face leaders Celtic and Robertson admits that they have a tough task ahead of them.

He said: “Now we have three difficult games, away to Motherwell, at home to Inverness Caley and away to Celtic so we have to try to get as many points as we can from them.”

The derby stalemate was Hibs’ third successive SPL draw, with a sense of what might have been leaving the Easter Road side nursing no end of frustration. “We felt we deserved the win at Tannadice, against Kilmarnock we thought we did well enough to win but ended up scraping a draw, and again on Sunday there was that big call,” added Robertson.
