Hibees’ new boy Ryan McGivern is raring to play

ON-LOAN Manchester City left-back Ryan McGivern is raring to go after what he
described as an “awkward” start to his Hibs career.

The 22-year-old agreed a transfer deadline day switch from the Barclays Premier League champions which will see him play for the Easter Road club until January.

Despite the move being confirmed a fortnight ago yesterday, McGivern wasn’t cleared in time to face Celtic two weeks ago. Since then he has been away on international duty with Northern Ireland, so he had to wait until the tail end of this week to hook up with his new team-mates.

Now that he’s here, he hopes the wait will prove worth it. “It has taken a bit of time, and it was a bit of a rush on deadline day to get it through,” he said. “I had hoped to be available for the Celtic match before the international break, but it wasn’t to be.

“I then had to go away with Northern Ireland, and it’s awkward to wait over a week before really getting a session with my new team-mates but I’m here and ready to go.”

McGivern is in contention to make his debut against Kilmarnock at Easter Road today as Hibs aim to make it five games unbeaten.
