Hearts fan Lewis Coult eyes rub of the green as he dons best friend Gary O’Connor’s boots

LEWIS Coult has revealed how Garry O’Connor’s boots will be on the park when Cowdenbeath host Hibernian today – even though the former Scotland striker will be in the stand.

O’Connor is sidelined for his team’s potential banana skin Scottish Cup fourth round tie at Central Park with a toe injury. But while his feet will be given another rest, his Nike Vapors won’t as Cowdenbeath player Coult will sport O’Connor’s size tens.

Coult revealed: “Garry is my best friend in football and I’ve been lucky enough that for the past few months he has been passing me down his boots.

“He’s given me pair of at the moment and while I’m not too keen on the colour green, they are top quality. Anyone who knows Garry will know that only the best will do for him. If Garry can score goals with his boots then hopefully he can pass some of that magic down to me too.”

Coult may have grown up a Hearts fan who idolised Cowdenbeath manager Colin Cameron but he doesn’t mind turning to Hibs top goalscorer for advice as well as boots.

He added: “Garry’s been a great source of advice for me over the past few years. He’s played for Scotland, he’s played in Russia and the English Premier League. If I can’t look up to him then who can I look up to? If he doesn’t play it will be a big boost for us.

“But Hibs have a lot of talented players and we have to be at the top of our game to win. We have been on a high in the league and will be well drilled by the manager and Lee Makel.

“I grew up watching them both as a Hearts season-ticket holder and when they talk we listen.”
