Final countdown: Capital heroes No15; Willie Ormond

Featuring in the annals of both Edinburgh clubs, Ormond was immortalised as an outside left with Hibs – along with Bobby Johnstone, Lawrie Reilly, Gordon Smith and Eddie Turnbull – as a member of The Famous Five, one of the greatest forward lines ever seen in Scottish football.

He scored 193 goals for the club, helped win the league title in 1948, 1951 and 1952, and won six Scotland caps before moving to Falkirk in 1961.

As a manager, he led St Johnstone into Europe for the first time. Appointed as Scotland boss in 1973, his team were the only undefeated side at the World Cup finals of 1974, when they were only eliminated on goal difference.

After resigning in 1977, he took the reins at Hearts and won over fans who had been sceptical due to his Easter Road background. Sacked in 1980, he returned to Hibs as assistant manager to Turnbull.

Ormond died in 1984 at the early age of 57.
