Arsenal youngster Rhys Murphy on trial at Hibs

HIBS will run the rule over Arsenal youngster Rhys Murphy in a bounce game tomorrow after taking the striker on trial.

The 21-year-old failed to land a deal with Rangers in the summer following a trial at Ibrox and was also assessed by former Easter Road manager Tony Mowbray at Middlesbrough in July.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 cap is available for a move away from Arsenal this month after failing to make the first-team breakthrough. Hibs manager Pat Fenlon will take a closer look at the forward, who had an injury-hit loan spell with Brentford in League One two seasons ago, in a closed-door encounter with Partick Thistle.

“I’m up training with Hibernian FC,” tweeted Murphy. “Will hopefully have more news some time next week.”

Fenlon has already off-loaded Victor Palsson, Junior Agogo, Matt Thornhill and David Crawford, with Akpo Sodje also expected to leave after going on trial with Westerlo in Belgium.
