Jack Ross backs his Hibs squad to deliver a positive response against St Mirren after 'sore' draw

Hibs have welcomed the early opportunity to right some wrongs as they look to bounce back from their weekend disappointment against Dundee United with a more complete performance and result against St Mirren on Wednesday.

The busy festive fixture list means the team do not have too much time to dwell on the disappointing draw with Mickey Mellon’s men that cost them two points and saw them slip down to fourth place in the league standings.

It was a result that infuriated the Hibs gaffer Jack Ross, who described the way the game finished and the away side’s late equaliser, as “sore”. But, he insisted that they would “dust ourselves down and be ready to go again on Wednesday”, when his team will welcome Jim Goodwin’s Paisley side to Easter Road.

Winger Martin Boyle agrees with his manager and says they have no option but to pick themselves up if they want to maintain their push for a European place.

Although they still boast a sizable 12 point advantage over the clubs chasing them, he understands the importance of momentum and Saturday’s game was a timely reminder of the need to capitalise when on top.

“We have set high standards and where we sit in the league shows that but, at the same, time, with the performance we put in [on Saturday] we shouldn’t have dropped points,” Boyle said. “We should have come away with the win and three or four goals, like we did in the last few games.

“Luckily, we have another game on Wednesday to put it right. and, hopefully, we will get back to scoring goals.”
