Hibs star David Wotherspoon eyes double figure tally

The midfield star had only claimed four goals in his three previous seasons but has netted  spectacular strikes against  Inverness Caley, Dundee and now the Steelmen in recent weeks and believes getting at least ten over the course of the season is a realistic target.

Wotherspoon said: “Getting into double figures as a midfield player would be good and I think if you are playing 30-odd games in a season you should try to get that many. It’s my target, I think it is realistic and hopefully I will get there.”

Two Leigh Griffiths penalties and a first goal by 18-year-old Danny Handling completed the scoring in a match packed with controversy, earning Hibs their biggest away win since they hammered Motherwell 6-1 almost six years ago, while it was only the Edinburgh club’s second victory on the road this season.

Wotherspoon believes Pat Fenlon’s side will take a huge lift from the performance, the win taking them to the 18-point mark and more than halfway to last season’s haul of 33. The 22-year-old said: “Last season was a disaster from start to finish but we’ve come back with a point to prove.

“We’ve brought in new faces, the team has been restructured. We were all disappointed to have lost at Ross County but we bounced back.

“We knew going into the game our away form wasn’t the best but 4-0 away from home will give us a massive boost. We were clinical in front of goal and we deserved what we got.”
