Hibs job a hard call to make for John Doolan

The former Latics defender – a lifelong friend of Hibs manager Alan Stubbs – was enjoying his role as a member of the backroom staff at the DW Stadium under boss Uwe Rosler. The 45-year-old was unveiled as Stubb’s first major signing on Saturday before joining him in the dugout for the 4-0 win over Lowland League outfit Vale of Leithen. Just days into his new position, Doolan believes he made the correct call.
He said: “When Alan said there was a position for me here I had to seriously think about it because of where I was. I’d enjoyed a good few years at Wigan as a player, as a coach working in youth development and for the last six or seven months with the first team with Uwe Rosler. To be fair it was a big decision, I was at an English Championship club which, I am sure, will push on to the Premier League under Uwe.
“But I thought Hibs would be a challenge. It’s a massive club, one with loads of history.”
