Hibs forward Florian Kamberi attracting interest following Rangers loan as Easter Road return date looms

Florian Kamberi will return to Hibs later this month - but both club and player have accepted that his future lies elsewhere with a number of sides across Europe ready to battle for his signature.

The Swiss-born striker will report back for training along with the rest of the Hibs squad on June 15 following the end of his loan spell at Rangers, the Evening News understands.

It will see the player come face-to-face with Jack Ross and his team mates at his parent club for the first time since the controversial Rangers TV interview that followed his move to Ibrox in the January transfer window.

Kamberi's comments – describing the loan as his “dream” move despite having a year left on his Hibs contract – have damaged his relationship with the Easter Road hierarchy and support, with it widely expected for him to depart the Capital before the start of next season.

His success in Scotland – he hit 29 goals in two years at Hibs before opening himself up to different markets with his performances at Rangers – has attracted interest from across the continent, with clubs from Germany and Poland, as well as at least one English Championship side, believed to be keen on the player.

A return to Ibrox could also still be on the cards after he scored once in nine appearances for Steven Gerrard's side, including featuring as a starter in the impressive 1-0 away victory over Braga in the Europa League.

Such a move could involve a possible swap deal for Greg Docherty, who impressed at Hibs with three goals in eight appearances after moving in the opposite direction as part of the loan arrangement.

Hibs though will hope to recoup a decent fee for the unsettled star who joined from Grasshoppers for £100,000 two years ago following an initial loan spell, and while there is no shortage of interest, whether they can recoup the player's full market value in the current economic climate remains to be seen.

The Evening News understands one club have already opened discussions with Hibs over a possible transfer fee paid in instalments, and while both club and player will be keen for his future to be resolved as quickly as possible, the uncertainty over coronavirus could see Kamberi remain at Easter Road for several weeks yet.
