Hearts and Hibs stars up for player of year award

Alim Ozturk, Morgaro Gomis and Jamie Walker are up against Scott Allan for the honour of being named the top player in the league by their fellow professionals.

Ozturk, Gomis and Walker have played key roles in Hearts’ runaway title success, whilst Allan’s influence has helped Hibs secure a play-off place as they strive for promotion.

The four nominees are the front runners after votes from footballers across Scotland were taken by the players’ union. The winners will be announced and presented with their awards at a celebration dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Sunday, May 3, sponsored by Cheque Centre.

The nominees for the League One Player of the Year are Peterhead’s Jamie Stevenson, Alan Trouten of Brechin City, Morton’s Declan McManus and Willie Gibson of Stranraer. In League Two, the top four are Arbroath’s Bobby Linn and Simon Murray, plus Shane Sutherland of Elgin and Queen’s Park’s Paul Woods.

PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart said: “This is the top award for players. There is no greater honour in football than to be voted the best player in your league by your fellow professionals.”
