The former Manchester United full-back missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Raith Rovers after having to be substituted at half-time with a hamstring problem in the 3-1 victory over Rangers five days previously.

Stubbs said: “Hopefully he won’t be too long. It’s not a major concern to me. He was touch and go [on Saturday] and we probably just erred on the side of caution, so I’ll be hoping he’ll be fit for next week.”

Hibs will be desperate to shake off a lacklustre performance against Raith when Dumbarton head to Easter Road for the second time this season. Ian Murray’s outfit were poised to cause an upset in the League Cup in August before two late goals secured a 3-2 victory for the home side.

Stubbs said: “You’ve got teams who are putting themselves behind the ball, but we have to be cleverer, we have to sometimes be more patient, we have to look to enforce ourselves on the opposition more.

“I feel as if, especially when the onus is on us at home, we’ve got to do more.”
