Hibs star Murray calls for clinical Scots side

Scotland WOMEN footballers edged out Wales 2-1 at East End Park yesterday, but midfielder Joelle Murray believes her side should have made more of the opportunities they created.

The Scots got off to the perfect start when Jane Ross latched onto Jenny Beattie’s flick and her lob caught out keeper Nicola Davies for a fifth-minute lead. Natasha Harding responded for Wales only minutes later when she raced through and chipped the ball over Shannon Lynn to level the friendly.

However, Anna Signeul’s side secured victory in the 68th minute when Fifer, Emma Mitchell, slid home the winning goal on her return to home soil.

Hibs star Murray believes that the margin of victory for the Scots should have been far greater given the opportunities they carved out on a difficult surface. “The pitch didn’t contribute to either team’s performance and I think it 
hindered both sets of players.

“We got out of the game what we wanted – fitness, game awareness – and used it to build on what we have achieved in recent years. Anna said she was very proud of our efforts.

“Whilst the score-line suggests a close game, we had a lot of opportunities that we should have scored, but we either missed or were denied by the goalkeeper, who was outstanding.”
