Having snapped up Celtic’s Nigerian internationalist Efe Ambrose on an emergency deal until the end of the season, Lennon has now added former Motherwell and Falkirk defender Brian McLean, 32 today, to his squad – subject to international clearance.

McLean has agreed a short-term contract and like Ambrose is likely to go straight into Lennon’s plans for the trip to Paisley, given injury has robbed him of defenders Paul Hanlon, Liam Fontaine and Jordon Forster among others while Darren McGregor is suspended for the cup match.

A former youth player with Rangers, McLean moved south to Preston North End from Falkirk before returning to Scotland to play for Dundee United and Ross County.

But for the past couple of years he’s been with DPMM Brunei, who play in Singapore’s S League which McLean, who can play at right back or in central defence, won in his first season in the Far East.
