Hibs boss reveals lure of family in England as suitors circle

HIBS boss Colin Calderwood has revealed that the lure of being closer to his family in England is one of the main reasons why he would consider a move to either Birmingham City or Nottingham Forest.

Both Chris Hughton and Steve McClaren, managers of Birmingham and Forest respectively, have made public their desire to prise Calderwood away from Hibs to become their assistant manager.

Neither club, however, has been able to strike a deal with the Easter Road side, with Hibs chairman Rod Petrie insisting that the club wish to keep Calderwood as manager.

Calderwood stated that until a deal is struck with one of the two Midlands clubs he would continue to carry out his duties as Hibs manager to the full, but he admitted that having his family down south and the potential to be closer to them was playing on his mind.

He said: "There is the appeal of being closer to the family. I can't get away from that fact and it's something that was there before I came to Hibs."

Calderwood also played down talk of the speculation over his future being unsettling.

He said: "What I don't want to do is to be demeaning towards Hibs and their supporters. Until there is a conclusion or an agreement my future is always with Hibs.

"I'm under contract, I understand the terms of the contract and, until that changes, then I'm here. I don't think the speculation is unsettling, but I don't want it to carry on forever."

Hughton and McClaren have both made it clear that they are willing to pursue the former Scotland international, and Calderwood admitted that the later start down south could be having an impact on proceedings.

"That point (thinking about the start of the season] probably has not come for teams in England as they're further away from the start of their season.

"In the short-term there is a problem because we have the start of the season and we have to address that."
