Hibs boss Alan Stubbs dreams of a team of Lewis Stevensons

Having endured some of the club's worst moments, Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs is thrilled to see Lewis Stevenson getting a crack at the good.

This evening, the Easter Road stalwart, who is still just 28, will make his 300th appearance for the club, knowing a win could edge the team closer to the dream of promotion. His manager says that would be the best reward for a player who has proved himself as more than an accomplished and loyal servant, he has demonstrated that he is a survivor.

“Lewis has stayed the test of time, he has had some amount of managers,” said Stubbs. “With the opinions those managers all have, for him still to be here tells you something about him. They have all seen something in him and I can see what. He has been an absolute pleasure to coach. He is a brilliant lad. He doesn’t say much but is one of the nicest guys you will ever come across in football and if you could you would have 11 of him because he is also a brilliant pro.”

Emerging from the youth ranks, the full-back made his Hibs debut against Ayr United in 2005 and is now playing under his eighth full-time first-team boss.

“It is not very often that you speak about a player making 300 appearances at one club. It is something that is becoming rarer and rarer in football, with the amount of money and, unfortunately, managers changing as well,” said Stubbs.

“But he is not really comfortable in the spotlight. Everyone asks if we have anything in store for Lewis for the Morton game but I don’t think that would be Lewis. He will want to play it down as just another game, just a number, so the best thing we can do is get three points for him.”
