The 2020/21 campaign is not set to begin until the middle of October, according to the Daily Mail, with the truncated season seeing teams play each other three times rather than the usual four.

Hearts continue to remain hopeful that they will play in a revamped Premiership with a possible decision on their reconstruction proposals on Tuesday.

Although it is understood their paper proposing a three-tier structure of 14-14-14 or 14-14-16 is set to be rejected.

As things stand the Championship could commence on October 17 with the start likely played behind closed doors before partial and then full crowds are allowed to attend matches.

A 27-game format will mean some clubs could face the prospect of having just 13 home league matches, while missing out on some potentially big away crowds for a second time.

Hearts, when releasing their season tickets for the 2020/21 campaign, made a pledge to fans that they would be entitled to “18 matches at Tynecastle Park, regardless of what league we play in or of the duration of the campaign”.

If the full complement is not met, it will see fans credited with the games they missed out on the following season.

Another aspect which is still unclear is the coronavirus testing infrastructure. Not only do clubs have to invest in equipment but there are weekly tests required.

Hearts benefactor James Anderson is set to provide investment to the SPFL clubs to help with the costs.
