Watch video of Celtic Park chaos as Hearts get a Police escort out of Glasgow after pitch invasion
Premiership title finale descends into ugly scenes
As Hearts’ Premiership title challenge ended in the dying moments of the season, a pitch invasion by Celtic fans brought horrible final scenes at Celtic Park. Thousands of home supporters poured onto the pitch as Callum Osmand scored Celtic’s third goal in a 3-1 win, which saw the Glasgow club retain their status as champions.
Hearts were left shattered after leading the league table since September. The game was tied at 1-1 after goals by Lawrence Shankland and Arne Engels. Daizen Maeda struck on 88 minutes and Osmand then scored into an empty net on 97 minutes, with Hearts players all in the final third chasing an equaliser.
That goal prompted Celtic supporters to stream onto the pitch and some Hearts players were accosted and taunted as security tried to take them off the field. They went up the tunnel under instruction from sporting director Graeme Jones. Tynecastle players and staff immediately boarded the team bus and were given a police escort out of Glasgow to safety.
Our video of the pitch invasion shows the appalling scenes which overshadowed the end of the game.
