Another weekend ahead without any football. This was meant to be an international weekend so clubs would have been on a break anyway, but Scottish football fans may have been preparing for one of the biggest games in the country’s recent history.

Last night they were due to face Israel at Hampden Park to a place in the Euro 2020 play-off final against Norway or Serbia. Scotland could have been just one step away from their first finals tournament in 22 years.

Hearts reject takeover

Hearts owner Ann Budge has confirmed that she has rejected any moves for a takeover of the club.

The Daily Mail revealed that Barnsley chief Paul Conway approached the club about investment.

The American businessman has control of Barnsley and Swiss side FC Thun, a former club of ex-Hearts defender Jose Goncalves.

Ann Budge told the Daily Mail: "I did receive a call from Paul and indeed over recent months I have received similar calls from a number of other would-be investors.

"In line with my contractual commitment to the fans to transfer ownership of Hearts to them, other than informing the Hearts board of the approaches, I have pursued none of them."

Motherwell have also been approached but are also expected to reject any proposal.
