Scottish and English clubs alert as Manchester United release ex-Hearts man Demetri Mitchell and Edinburgh-born Ethan Hamilton

Ethan Hamilton has been released by Manchester United along with Demetri Mitchell.

Manchester United have released former Hearts loanee Demetri Mitchell and Edinburgh-born Ethan Hamilton ahead of the new season.

The pair are part of a group of nine who will not be offered new contracts as the Old Trafford club reduce the size of their playing squad.

Mitchell, 23, spent two spells on loan to Hearts during 2018 and 2019 and established a reputation as an attacking left-back.

He is an England youth internationalist and is expected to have several Scottish and English clubs interested in his signature as a free agent.

Midfielder Hamilton, 21, joined United from Hutchison Vale aged 16 but did not make a senior appearance. He was loaned out to Rochdale, Southend and Bolton during his time in England.

The Scotland Under-19 internationalist is now looking for a new club with teams on both sides of the Border alerted to his availability.

Alongside Mitchell and Hamilton, United have also released Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Dion McGhee, Aidan Barlow, Alex Fojticek, Kieran O’Hara, Largie Ramazani and George Tanner.
