Hearts appeal for Rangers friendly

Hearts manager Gary Locke has spoken to Rangers manager Ally McCoist about the two clubs playing a pre-season friendly to help ease the Tynecastle club’s financial situation. Hearts need to raise £700,000 before the start of the new season. (Sun)

• The Tynecastle club’s hopes of making it out of administration have been dealt a further blow after it emerged that they will no longer be able to take payments for season tickets by debit card after online sales were suspended. (Express)

• John Sutton could be freed by Hearts after remaining undecided on whether he should join his team mates in accepting a pay cut. Jamie Hamill, Ryan Stevenson and Jamie MacDonald have all agreed to a 50 per cent pay cut (Mail)

Celtic agree £12.5m deal for Victor Wanyama

Southampton are set to sign Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama after the player flew south for talks with the Premiership outfit after a fee was agreed with he Parkhead club.

Celtic signed Wanyama from Beerschot two years ago for £900,000 with the Belgian outfit negotiating a sell-on clause.

If agreed, the deal will be the largest transfer Scottish football has ever seen - topping the £12m move of Tore Andre Flo to Rangers in 2000. (Scotland on Sunday)

• The Sunday Mail however reports that Wanyama’s move to Southampton is off after the player failed to agree personal terms

• The Parkhead club are also understood to be willing to accept a bid of £5m for striker Garry Hooper after the player made it clear he is not looking for a better contract and is keen for a move back to England. Hooper’s contract expires next summer. (Sunday Post)

• Celtic will go into the draw for the second qualifying round of the Champions League tomorrow where they will face an unseeded team

Former SRU chief Gordon Mckie and a group of wealthy Hearts supporting businessmen from Edinburgh and London are working on a deal that could see them gain control of the Tynecastle club which is currently in administration. (Scotland on Sunday)
