The Daily Record reports new Killie boss Tommy Wright is looking to add more firepower to his squad after watching is team remain goalless in his first game in charge, Wednesday night’s 1-0 defeat to Motherwell.

The Rugby Park side would offer the Northern Irish striker a deal until the end of the season in a move that could benefit both parties with Lafferty looking for regular football to remain in the Northern Ireland squad.

It was reported earlier on Thursday that the 33-year-old backed out of a move to Romanian side Sepsi fall after the two parties couldn’t agree on the finer points of his contract. He remains a free agent after leaving Italian club Reggina during the January window.

Lafferty told Prosport: "In football, details make the difference. We did not agree on some issues and we were forced to decline the offer. I am sorry that I did not reach an agreement, I was ready to come to Romania.

"I am a professional footballer and I am willing to play wherever I want if there is the possibility to have results, to achieve performance in one way or another.”

Lafferty won six major honours, including three league titles during a four-year spell with Rangers between 2008 and 2012 after signing from Burnley.

He returned to Scottish football with Hearts prior to the 2017-18 season and would finish the campaign as the club’s top scorer with 19 goals, including notable strikes in wins over Celtic and Hibs.

Rangers renewed their interest in their former star in August of 2018 and eventually signed the Tynecastle favourite for an undisclosed six-figure sum.

However, things would not work out for Lafferty on his return to Ibrox. He agreed to have his contract terminated by mutual consent having netted only five times in 24 appearances.

The well-travelled hitman has also played for Darlington, Sion, Palermo, Norwich City, Çaykur Rizespor, Birmingham City, Sarpsborg 08 and Sunderland during his 17-year professional career. He has 79 caps and 20 goals for his country.
