Hibs v Hearts: How Rangers cup outcome would result in postponement of Edinburgh derby

Draw in the Scottish Cup tie would make Hearts travel to Ibrox - instead of Easter Road - next week

Tuesday's Edinburgh derby between Hibs and Hearts could be postponed if the Jambos draw with Rangers on Saturday evening.

Due to the Ibrox club's European commitments, if the tie goes to a replay it would have to be played the following Wednesday, with the Scottish Cup taking precedent over league fixtures.

The same scenario will occur if this weekend's match at Tynecastle is postponed for any reason.

The Scottish FA website lays out the details of when each replay would be played. Hearts are scheduled to travel to Glasgow on Wednesday, March 4, a scenario that has since been confirmed to the Evening News by the game's governing body.

If Hibs were to require a replay in their meeting with Inverness, the game would be played on Tuesday, March 10. The same goes for Aberdeen v St Mirren, while Celtic v St Johnstone would take place the following day.

Rangers' victory over Braga in the Europa League means it would be impossible to play the match in the second midweek in March as they'll be facing German side Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of their last 16 encounter on Thursday, March 12.
