He is expected to sign a two-year deal as the Edinburgh club bid to return to the Scottish Premiership.

Halliday held talks with Hearts officials over the weekend and agreed terms to join their quest for promotion.

He was released by Rangers at the end of last season and initially explored some options in England before deciding to remain closer to home.

The former Livingston academy graduate can operate in central midfield or at left-back and brings considerable experience to the Hearts squad.

He spent four years in West Lothian before spells at Middlesbrough, Walsall, Blackpool, Bradford City and Rangers.
