Wilson, who left Tynecastle at the end of the season, is said to have arrived at Murray Park today as Mark Warburton bids to make the defender one of his first signings.

The 23-year-old left Hearts after activating a release clause in his contract, following a successful spell with the Edinburgh side that saw him lead them back to the Premiership.

Wilson started his career with Rangers in 2009 before winning a move to English premier league side Liverpool in 2010 after putting in some great performances for the Ibrox side.

The Scot failed to nail down a regular place in the Anfield side and returned north of the border to join Hearts.

The club are also said to be close to signing one of Warburton’s other targets Rob Kiernan after they agreed a fee with English side Wigan.
