Hearts will let best players go – but only if the price is right

HEARTS are prepared to sell some of their established players this summer if they can secure maximum value in the transfer market.

The club's managing director, David Southern, stressed today that there is no pressing need to sell and that players would only leave for top prices.

John Sutton, Jamie Hamill and Danny Grainger all moved to Tynecastle last month on freedom of contract, whilst Ruben Palazuelos and Ismael Bouzid have been released from the squad.

Lee Wallace, Marian Kello and Marius Zaliukas are being monitored by clubs both in the UK and abroad but, as prize assets, they would only be allowed to depart for a considerable transfer fee.

"We have made a start with the three signings and there may be one or two others," explained Southern. "Manager Jim Jefferies is working on that right now. If it happens, it'll be a good player and someone he wants.

"With regards to players going out, we're in a position where we have the financial backing of the owner so we do not have to sell. But if we do sell we will get maximum value and there will already be a player in the squad to replace him." Bouzid, meanwhile, admitted he would be keen to stay in Scotland but only with the Old Firm.

"Everyone knows Celtic and Rangers are two massive clubs. If you have the chance to play there it would be good for you and I'll check with my agent when I return from holiday next week and see what is happening," he said.

"I was happy with Hearts but in terms of a contract what happens on the pitch and in the office is often different.

"Sometimes you can be happy playing with a club and not find a solution behind the scenes. I have been happy to play for Hearts these last two seasons.

"I wish them all the best and hope they reach the group stages of the Europa League."
