The 33-year-old was said to be at the club’s Riccarton training base yesterday as the squad went through their paces ahead of tonight’s clash with Aberdeen.
Gilks is currently contracted to English Championship champions Burnley, though his deal expires this summer and he is expected to leave Turf Moor.
It was revealed earlier this month that current incumbent Neil Alexander was due to sign a new contract with the Gorgie Road club. The 38-year-old doubles up as the Hearts goalkeeping coach as he nears the end of his playing career.
With Alexander’s advancing years, Hearts may be looking for another stopper to compete for a place next season, with young Jack Hamilton also in contention.
Hamilton started last Saturday’s draw with Ross County and has been tipped as Hearts’ goalkeeper of the future. However, his relative inexperience may stop head coach Robbie Neilson and director of football Craig Levein from entrusting him with the gloves just yet.
