Harry Redknapp will not contemplate QPR relegation

QUEENS Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp is refusing to even consider the prospect of relegation, despite his side heading to Fulham tonight rock bottom of the Barclays Premier League.

Usually so canny in the transfer market, Redknapp will not take any calls from player agents – and even his own future could be decided by these last eight matches.

Asked whether, in the event of relegation, he would stay to bring QPR back up, Redknapp said: “It would be up to the chairman and the board. Whatever they want to do is fine by me. If they say ‘look Harry, we are looking to go down a different route’ it wouldn’t be a problem.

“I like it here and I am happy here. I don’t even think about going down. It doesn’t even enter my mind.

“I am so positive about staying up. I am confident we will. I don’t even think about the Championship. I have people ringing me up about players but I don’t know what players I am after. At the moment you can’t plan for anything.”

QPR are seven points adrift of safety and Redknapp believes they need to win at least four of their last eight games, but hopes that this evening’s trip to Fulham could be the catalyst. QPR are unbeaten against capital opposition all season.

“It could give us that push that we need. Three points would be so good,” Redknapp said.

QPR have been boosted by the return to fitness of striker Bobby Zamora and the form of Redknapp’s January signings. Former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas has scored twice in two appearances and QPR’s wins against Southampton and Sunderland earned them six points from a possible nine.

“We’re playing well. If we were in bad form I’d be more worried,” Redknapp said. “That gives us a chance. With eight games to go, that’s positive for us.”
