Goals, goals, goals galore since 1992

MARC Albrighton’s goal for Villa against Arsenal on Wednesday was the 20,000th in the Premier League and prompted a flurry of lists of goals from across the years since Brian Deane of Sheffield United got the very first against Manchester United on 15 August 1992.

Other landmarks include Eric Cantona getting the 100th just ten days later against Spurs when he was with Leeds.

Blackburn’s Mike Newell got the 1,000th goal against Nottingham Forest on 7 April 1993 and Coventry’s Mick Quinn the 2,000th against Man City a year later. The 4,999th and 5,000th were given at the same time on 7 December 1996 so Villa’s Andy Townsend (v Southampton) and Chris Sutton of Blackburn (v Leicester) shared the honour. “Sir” Les Ferdinand was with Spurs when he netted the 10,000th Premier League goal against London rivals Fulham on 15 December. It was a Fulham player, though, German defender Moritz Volz, who got the 15,000th on 30 December 2006 against Chelsea.

The top scorers overall are Alan Shearer with 260 and, as a team, Manchester United with and impressive 1,494.
