Gala Fairydean 1-3 Berwick Rangers Res: Berwick too strong for rivals Gala

Almost from the start, Berwick appeared to have the edge on Gala, who often presented opportunities to them with hurried poor passes and clearances.

Towards the end of the first half Gala came more into the match and Marc Berry won the ball, resulting in a succession of corners, with Gary Lothian’s header just wide from the second of these.

Just when it appeared the teams would go in for the interval all-square, a bad pass from Stewart Davidson was intercepted and Berwick proceeded to set up Kenny O’Brien with a series of slick passes to shoot home from the left side of the goal.

Gala got the equaliser immediately after half time when Scott Nightingale flicked the ball into the path of Jack Hay, whose shot beat the Berwick keeper.

Parity was short-lived as a chip towards the Gala far post was deflected by Turnbull into the path of the backtracking Davidson, who could not avoid putting the ball into his own net.

Berwick put the match beyond doubt when Smith cut the ball back to Morri from the right side of the area and he swept the ball home from close to the penalty spot.
