Four 7s, a shining Celtic loanee but one big let-down - Aberdeen player ratings against Rangers

We give a mark out of ten to the Aberdeen players involved in the Viaplay Cup semi-final against Rangers at Hampden.

Kelle Roos: Powerless to stop Rangers’ goals and appeared to play on through a leg injury. 6

Ross McCrorie: Played well at right-back and had to slot into central defence when the Dons went down to ten men. Was carded though for a pretty bad tackle on Ryan Kent – one that sits between yellow and red. 6

Anthony Stewart: The Aberdeen captain led his backline well and kept Alfredo Morelos. However – and it’s a big however – he totally blotted his copybook with a dreadful tackle on Fashion Sakala just before full time that left his tired team-mates in the lurch for extra time. 5

Liam Scales: The Celtic loanee impressed, and was desperately unlucky for the ball to deflect off him for Rangers’ equaliser. Good in the air and on the deck. Nearly scored in extra time. 7

Hayden Coulson: The left-back was another who left it all out there. His tackle on Fashion Sakala in the second half was timed impeccably. The Middlesbrough loanee once again did well. 7

Matty Kennedy: Intelligent run while the Rangers defence was sleeping and neat cutback led to the opener. Did not stop working all match. 6

Graeme Shinnie: His experience and battling qualities helped Aberdeen get back into the match after a frantic opening ten minutes. Already an excellent signing by Aberdeen. 7

Ylber Ramadani: The weaker of the two sitting midfielders, although he made sure it was a right good battle in the midfield quagmire. 6

Leighton Clarkson: Pierced the Rangers defence with two pinpoint through balls, the second of which led to the opening goal. Also cracked the post with a shot in the second period. Was the Dons’ classiest player but had to make way on 74 minutes due to injury. 7

Duk: The Cape Verde internationalist was Aberdeen’s main outlet in the first half and he tested James Tavernier on a number of occasions. Was still looking menacing until his afternoon was curtailed early by injury on 62 minutes. 7

Bojan Miovski: Snapped his scoring drought with a deft finish to put Aberdeen ahead that belied his recent run. Looked much more like the player we saw at the start of the season. Ran himself into the ground and was replaced by Christian Ramirez at the start of extra time. 7

Replacements: Jonny Hayes (5) came close with a long range effort, while Connor Barron (4) had to try and get a midfield foothold with a numerical disadvantage. He had a chance to equalise right at the death. Christian Ramirez (3) replaced Miovski in extra time but saw little of the ball, while Marley Watkins (n/a) was thrown on right at the end.
