Former Celtic, Aberdeen and Motherwell favourite Mark McGhee takes new career path away from dugout

The 63-year-old has joined German-based agency WSM Marketing & Management where he will be involved in recruitment of players and managers while also advising the careers of clients.

McGhee’s last stint in the dug-out was a short spell in caretaker charge of English National League side Eastbourne Borough towards the end of the 2018-19 season.

He previously managed Aberdeen, in between two stints in charge of Motherwell, while his managerial CV also includes Reading, Leicester City, Wolves, Millwall, Brighton, Bristol Rovers and Barnet. He was also Scotland assistant coach under Gordon Strachan.

As a player McGhee won four Scottish titles in the 1980s, two each with Aberdeen and Celtic, and five Scottish Cups, three successive times with the Dons from 1981 to 1984 and twice more after moving to Parkhead.

He was also part of the Aberdeen side that defeated Real Madrid in the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983.

McGhee said: "I am delighted to be joining Christoph (Wortmann) and his team of WSM Marketing & Management.

"Along with the other football projects in which I am involved I am finally answering a call I have been receiving over the last few years.
