The Spaniard has found himself under fire from sections of the Chelsea faithful since his appointment in November due to his prior association with Liverpool. But the 52-year-old says he has also received backing from many supporters which will not have been noticed. He told Spanish newspaper Marca: “I have to say the fans are very good to me in the street. Many stop me and tell me to keep on working and not to listen to the critics. I have a lot more support than is shown.”

Record £15.9m profit for Swansea

Swansea City have announced a record profit of £15.9million for the six months up to the end of November 2012. The profit announced by the club is almost £10m more than for the same period in 2011. The Swans returned a profit of £14.6m for their first season in the Premier League. The profit before tax of £20.4m was made up of a £5.6million profit from operations, while a further £14.8m came from player sales, including those of Joe Allen to Liverpool and Scott Sinclair to Manchester City. Turnover, with the exclusion of player sales, has also risen to £28.5m, a growth of 11.5 per cent from the £25.5m for the previous six months.

Le Tissier to pull on boots again at 44

Former England and Southampton forward Matt Le Tissier could make his comeback on Sunday, more than a decade after hanging up his boots, to help non-league side Guernsey FC get through a fixture logjam. The 44-year-old, now a television pundit, was born on the Channel Island of Guernsey and is the honorary president of the club, while his brother Mark is a director. Le Tissier retired as a player in 2002 after 541 appearances for Southampton and eight caps for England, and was registered by Guernsey earlier this season.
