Football friendlies roundup: Saints stroll to win at Bayview

St Johnstone warmed up for next week’s Europa League tie in Turkey against Eskisehirspor with a 4-0 friendly win over East Fife at Bayview last night.

The Saints faced former player Collin Samuel, who was making a trialist appearance for the Fifers, and he almost met a dangerous looking Scott McBride cross before St Johnstone took the lead after five minutes.

The opener came when Sean Higgins netted from close range after good work from summer signing Gregory Tade. Higgins sliced a good opportunity wide shortly afterwards and as St Johnstone dominated Nigel Hasselbaink hit the woodwork after a scramble in the home box.

Former Rangers player Bob Malcolm came on at half-time for Gordon Durie’s side, however they were two down on 52 minutes when Hasselbaink netted after the home defence failed to clear their lines.

A trialist substitute rounded goalkeeper Michael Brown to make it three before former Reading striker, Brett Williams, marked his trialist appearance when he grabbed the fourth with an hour gone. Leighton McIntosh scored twice as Dundee geared up for Saturday’s derby against Dundee United with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Kendal Town in last night’s pre-season friendly. Substitute McIntosh grabbed a late double as Barry Smith’s potential SPL new boys rounded off their tour of northern England with a morale-boosting victory.

It was raining goals in monsoon conditions in the opening 15 minutes as Falkirk defeated hosts Turriff 5-2 at The Haughs.

Donnie Fraser gave the home side the lead after 4 minutes before a Falkirk trialist striker levelled on nine minutes. Robert Henderson edged Turriff ahead again within seconds only for Liam Dick to restore parity before 15 minutes had been played.

With half an hour gone it was 3-2 to the Bairns when summer signing from Bury, Andy Haworth, fired home a free kick from 20 yards and Jordan White added the fourth with with Steven Kingsley getting the fifth.
