Football briefs: Notts | Van Persie | Newcastle | Arsenal Ladies

NOTTS County have appointed Chris Kiwomya as their permanent manager on a three-year deal.

Kiwomya, who had been in temporary charge of the Magpies since the departure of Keith Curle last month, first joined County as development squad manager in February 2012, having previously been the reserve team coach at Ipswich. County, who are seven points adrift of the play-offs with nine games to play, have lost two of 11 matches under Kiwomya’s stewardship.

• Robin van Persie feels he could stay at Manchester United for the rest of his career after enjoying a superb first season at Old Trafford.

The Netherlands striker has netted 19 Premier League goals since joining from Arsenal in August, inspiring United to the brink of a 20th top-flight title.

“For the next few years I will be at Man United – maybe longer,” the 29-year-old said yesterday. “United could be my last club. You have a number of clubs in Europe where older players can find it good, where they are valued. Manchester United today is a good example.”

• Newcastle have recorded a profit for the second successive year. The Magpies released financial figures for the year ending June 2012 which show that the club made a profit of £1.4million. That is significantly down on the previous year’s level of £32.6m, although that was due largely to the £35m sale of striker Andy Carroll to Liverpool. The club increased turnover by 5.4 per cent to £93.3m to return to the list of the world’s top 20 richest clubs.

• Arsenal Ladies moved just one step away from an appearance in May’s Champions League final at Stamford Bridge as they completed an impressive last-eight triumph over Italian side ASD Torres. After a 3-1 home win put them in firm control of the tie, new head coach Shelley Kerr’s team were 1-0 victors at the Stadio Vanni Sanna in the Sardinian city of Sassari to seal a 4-1 aggregate success.

Irish defender Niamh Fahey scored the only goal of the second leg after four minutes.
