Aberdeen know they have to do better in the head-to-head if they are to challenge for the title this season and they got a huge psychological boost by beating the champions with 10 men at Pittodrie to ensure their best start to a league campaign.

Partick will need to do it the hard way

Two seasons ago Partick did not manage a home win until February, despite dominating a number of games at Firhill. Their rotten luck returned to haunt them on Saturday when they hit the woodwork three times against Dundee before going down to Greg Stewart’s late strike, leaving Thistle without a win so far in this campaign.
