Fighting Rose shock Glens

Bonnyrigg Rose 4 Glenrothes 3

THE look of shock on the faces of the Glens players and officials said it all.

For most of the match the Super League bottom dogs were more than a match for last season's champions. They dominated the game for long spells, with Lee Duffy outstanding in midfield.

Livewire striker Greg Meikle put Glens ahead midway through the first half reacting quickest to a John Martin through ball. Then Paul McBride doubled the Glens' advantage.

Bryan Wilson gave Bonnyrigg hope early in the second half with a fine goal. However, Glens recovered and resumed their domination. Sam Buchan forced a poor tackle from Stevie Noble and John Martin sent the resultant spot kick home. It looked all over for Bonnyrigg but they produced an amazing comeback. David Dunn headed a second before Kevin McLeish produced two moments of sheer brilliance to win an unlikely three points for the Rose. Right on full time he crashed a great volley home and in injury time he scored a quite magnificent winner with a 25-yard free-kick.
