Fans rage on Twitter after Celtic TV crashes before Linfield match

A high demand on the Celtic TV servers left hundreds of fans unable to watch the beginning of their side's Champions League qualifier with Linfield.

With Celtic all but assured of a place in the next round, Premier Sports, who often show early rounds of European qualification before BT Sport’s exclusive rights come into effect, declined to broadcast the match.

So those who were unable to view the match would not miss out, Celtic decided to show the game live on their website Celtic TV. Typically, this is an option for international fans only, but on this occasion it would be available to anyone who signed up for either the £40 or £80 annual subscription.

Unfortunately, the high demand caused a problem with the server. While some fans were still able to see the beginning of the match, hundreds of others were left unable to even login to the website.

Several supporters took to Twitter to express their frustration as a result.

Celtic fan @SaoirseT98 wrote on Twitter: “This is an absolute joke. Match isn’t on TV and Celtic TV is down.”

@Sevcositcom added: “Paid £80 for Celtic TV today. What a muppet.”

While @godfalla chipped in with: “Celtic tv is down, ******* shocking from a club of our standards.”

And @Rikos67_: “Looked forward to this game all day only to be finessed by Celtic TV.”

Reacting to the complaints from customers, Celtic TV made a link available to see the game via an online stream.

Celtic led the match 1-0 at the half thanks to a goal from Scott Sinclair.
