Using Periscope, a live video streaming app own by Twitter, supporters at the match were able to broadcast the action live for friends and family (and their Twitter followers) who were unable to secure tickets for the sold out fixture.

Hibs won the match 1-0 thanks to an early Jason Cummings goal. The striker, along with Hearts’ Blazej Augustyn, would later be sent off, though the hosts held on for the win.

Fans were forced into such drastic measures after it was discovered no TV company, or even the clubs themselves, were allowed to broadcast the match anywhere due to Uefa’s strict rules regarding domestic fixtures played on the same night as the Champions League.

Supporters at Rugby Park, where Kilmarnock hosted Rangers, also took advantage, with over 19,000 people watching the visitors win with a late Nicky Clark goal.
