Woman dies after being hit by train in Falkirk

A WOMAN has died after being hit by a train on the Edinburgh - Dunblane line.

The woman was struck by a train near Falkirk Grahamston station, in Falkirk, around 7.40am.

Services between Edinburgh and Dunblane were suspended while trains travelling between Glasgow Queen Street and Falkirk Grahamston were terminating at Cumbernauld.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “A woman was struck and killed by a train in the Falkirk station.”

Replacement buses were put on to take passengers from Edinburgh to Stirling from Polmont, to connect with services between Glasgow Queen Street and Dunblane.

Travellers between Glasgow Queen Street and Falkirk Grahamston were instructed to use Falkirk High, with replacement buses taking passengers to Falkirk Grahamston.

A spokesman for ScotRail added: “We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused by this sad incident.”
