Falkirk 4 - 3 Airdrie United: Pressley’s Utd audition a game of two halves

As far as auditions go, this went perfectly for Steven Pressley – for 45 minutes. On Dundee United’s wanted list to replace Peter Houston, this victory was as good as a positive interview for the Falkirk manager until Airdrie made the Bairns sweat with two late goals.

Blair Alston slipped a clever ball for Lyle Taylor to sweep in his 19th of the season after just eight minutes and, midway through the half, the home side doubled their lead through Stewart Murdoch.

Falkirk then struck again ten minutes from the interval when Taylor bundled in a rebound off the crossbar from his own header.

The visitors were handed a lifeline ten minutes into a remarkable second-half when Darren Dods was guilty of clambering over Gregor Buchanan to give away a
penalty that substitute Paul Di Giacomo despatched.

Dods then made amends in the 73rd minute when he headed in Jay Fulton’s corner at the back post only for Willie McLaren to spark a grandstand finish with a free-kick that nicked off the wall on its way into the top corner. John Boyle’s third for the visitors came just too late to prevent them from going bottom.
