David Weir linked with return to Falkirk

CHAIRMAN Martin Ritchie insists Falkirk have begun their managerial search with a “clean sheet of paper” despite the name of former Scotland defender David Weir emerging as a prime target.

The Bairns have also been credited with possible moves for Morton manager Allan Moore and former Falkirk fans’ favourite Russell Latapy since Steven Pressley departed for Coventry City on Friday. Cowdenbeath manager Colin Cameron is considered to be another possible contender.

Weir, who is currently the Under-21s coach at Barclays Premier League side Everton, began his playing career at Falkirk back in 1992 and would be an impressive appointment.

However, Ritchie has indicated the Westfield outfit are in no rush to fill the vacancy which he believes will prove attractive to many in the game. Applications have been invited.

He said: “I think we’ll get some very interesting names and we are starting out with an absolute clean sheet of paper. No-one is being ruled out, no-one is being pencilled in.

“It’s a club that’s got a lot going for it, apart from the standard things like a good tradition and a good support and a team generally playing at a good level in Scottish football.

“We also have a tremendous amount of talent coming through. We are in a strong position and I think this will appeal to a lot of managers.”

It is expected that the board will draw up a short list this week, with an appointment to be made next week.
