Chihuahua pup left to die in box near cemetery

ANIMAL welfare workers have appealed for information after after a tiny Chihuahua pup was left to die in a box in a graveyard car park.

Officials from the Scottish SPCA were alerted when the pup was discovered on the brink of death last Friday in a layby near the Hills of Dunipace Cemetery, near Falkirk, Stirlingshire.

The dog, named Minnie, is now in the care of the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Lanarkshire.

Animal Rescue Officer Ashley Griffin said: “Minnie was found in a box without a blanket, food or water. She was severely emaciated and covered in faeces. She was so weak she could not lift her head or swallow properly.

“She was taken to the vets and it is a miracle that she is still alive. They practically brought her back to life and she was showing signs of improvement after only a few days. She is still under veterinary supervision and is doing really well.

“We cannot understand why someone would abandon this young puppy in such a horrific way and we will look after her until we find her the loving home she deserves.

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
