Falkirk 4-0 Cowdenbeath

Falkirk took no chances ahead of next Saturday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Hibs by resting five first-team regulars, however they were still too strong for relegation-threatened visitors Cowdenbeath.

Scorers: Falkirk - Dods 69; Sibbald 79; Higgins 87 pen, 89

The Bairns, being watched by new manager Gary Holt who starts work on Monday, secured win number four in a row thanks to four second -half goals.

Sean Higgins almost gave Falkirk an early lead with a lob that just dropped past the post and the Blue Brazil’s Greg Stewart missed a great chance shooting straight at Michael McGovern.

Jay Fulton then saw an effort blocked by Colin Stewart before Stewart went close again for the Fifers with an effort that just slipped past.

The deadlock was broken 21 minutes from time when Fulton’s cross from the left travelled to the far post and Dods sent a side-foot volley home.

The second came nine minutes later when Liam Rowan’s low cross was edged forward by Higgins before Sibbald touched home from close range.

Higgins shot home a penalty after Fulton had been fouled with three minutes left before calmly slotting past Stewart in the closing stages.
