Falkirk 2 - 0 Cowdenbeath: ‘Terrific’ Falkirk tame Cowdenbeath

Falkirk collected only their second home league victory of the season as first-half goals from Stewart Murdoch and Lyle Taylor saw off the meek challenge of Cowdenbeath.

After first-minute scare when Bairns defender Jonathan Flynn cleared a Jamie Stevenson effort off the line following a defensive mix-up, the host’s quality shone through.

“I thought we were terrific,” said Falkirk manager Steven Pressley, whose team have now won three successive matches.

“I thought we controlled the game and played in the fashion that I describe in our dressing room as ‘the Falkirk way’, passing the ball with good ball retention to push
players high.”

Falkirk – who named eight teenagers on their tea-sheet – made their dominance count in the 33rd minute when Murdoch found the net from the penalty spot. Taylor was left frustrated by referee Paul Robertson’s failure to play advantage after the Bairns marksman lifted an exquisite shot over goalkeeper Thomas Flynn but Murdoch made the spot kick count with a low drive.

Taylor doubled his team’s lead three minutes before the break with a well-executed volley. Meeting Craig Sibbald’s delivery at the back post, the forward – netting his tenth of the campaign – wrapped his foot around the ball in mid-air with his back to goal to power a shot past Flynn.

“Falkirk deserved to win, we never got close enough to them in the first half,” said the Cowdenbeath player-
manager Colin Cameron.
