Fabrizio Romano: The blockbuster transfer deals still yet to be finalised from deadline day list

A comprehensive round-up on current status of big transfer deals still waiting to be officially announced as English deadline looms

Transfer deadline day south of the border is delivering the drama once again, with several major deals still hanging in the balance as clubs race against the clock to complete their final pieces of business.

While a number of blockbuster moves have already been agreed, the latest updates from Fabrizio Romano suggest there is still plenty of work to be done for some clubs before the window closes at 11pm tonight.

Nathan Patterson to Torino latest

Scotland international Nathan Patterson’s proposed move from Everton to Torino is now very close to completion, with the right-back in Turin to undergo his medical and complete the final formalities.

Since coming off the bench for Scotland in the 0-1 defeat to Ivory Coast, the right-back has played a grand total of one minute, as his struggle for regular first-team football continues at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. He's a player clearly trusted by Clarke, but having seen just 240 minutes of league action with Everton this season, his place is far from certain.placeholder image

Romano has reported that the former Rangers defender has agreed a three-year contract running until June 2029, with the Toffees also securing a “significant sell-on clause”.

That means Everton could receive a substantial percentage of any future transfer fee should Patterson move on from the Serie A club and rediscover his best form, with his transfer to Italy understood to be worth around €1 million initially.

The 24-year-old, who will link up with fellow Scotland international Che Adams at Torino, needs to revive a career that promised plenty after a difficult spell on Merseyside.

He arrived at Goodison Park in an £11m deal with a big reputation after establishing himself as one of Scotland's most promising young full-backs at Rangers, but injuries and increased competition at full-back severely restricted his opportunities.

Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City

Undoubtedly, the biggest storyline centres on Manchester City, Chelsea and a potential British-record transfer. The biggest deal still being processed is Enzo Fernandez's proposed move from Stamford Bridge to the Etihad.

Romano has reported that City and Chelsea have reached an agreement for a deal worth more than €125m, with the transfer set to become a British-record fee. A medical has been scheduled for the Argentina international, meaning the move is now at an advanced stage.

The transfer represents a remarkable turnaround for Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica for a British-record in January 2023. City's move would also have major consequences for Chelsea, who have been working frantically to identify a replacement.

Chelsea turn to Lamine Camara

With Fernandez heading towards the exit, Chelsea have made a formal move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara.

Romano reported that the Blues submitted an offer worth €45m, but the Ligue 1 outfit believe the proposal is too low. Talks remain ongoing, while Camara is understood to be keen on making the move to London.

The deal has therefore become one of the key late-window sagas. Chelsea need to decide whether to improve their offer, while Monaco must determine whether they are prepared to lose one of their key midfielders so late in the window.

An emergency meeting involving the player, club officials and his representatives was also reported earlier in the day.

Nicolas Tagliafico to Atletico Madrid

Another deal waiting for the final green light involves Nicolas Tagliafico and Atletico Madrid.

Romano reports that the Argentina international is waiting for final approval to join the La Liga club, with sporting director Mateu Alemany continuing to work on potential exits.

The move has developed rapidly on deadline day after Atletico emerged as a strong candidate for the experienced Lyon full-back. Based on Romano's latest information, the transfer is close but it remains dependent on the final formalities being completed.

Could Liverpool make one more move?

Liverpool's situation is particularly interesting because Romano has played down the chances of another major signing despite the club's activity throughout the summer.

The Reds have already completed the statement signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, but there has been rumoured late interest in Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr. Liverpool held discussions with Palace, although the Selhurst Park club were reluctant to sell. Romano subsequently indicated that Liverpool were not expected to do further business.

There has also been speculation surrounding Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, whose representatives were still pushing for a move to Anfield. However, that appeared increasingly unlikely as the hours pass.

Deals that could trigger late movement

Several other transfers have already reached the agreement stage but still require medicals, paperwork or official confirmation.

Jack Grealish is set to return to Everton on loan from Manchester City, while Folarin Balogun is moving from Monaco to Everton in a deal worth €45m plus €5m in add-ons.

Manchester City's proposed move for Iliman Ndiaye from Everton is also entering its final stage, with the player undergoing a medical.

Meanwhile, Claudio Echeverri is heading from City to Benfica on loan, with the Portuguese club covering his salary and a purchase option included in the agreement.

But Fernandez remains the headline news at present. With a British-record transfer, a potential Chelsea replacement and several clubs scrambling to complete their final deals, the closing hours of the window could still produce one last burst of chaos.
