Eyemouth ‘ding’ Duns to reach Alex Jack Cup final

Eyemouth secured a place in the Alex Jack Cup final after converting a late penalty in what was a thrilling semi-final against local rivals Duns.

The Dingers will rue the chances squandered in the first half of a match which too extra time to decide.

Eyemouth had a goal opportunity as early as the first minute when Aidan Lauder found himself through on goal but Tansey saved well.

Both teams were guilty of scrappy football early on but were both working hard to dominate game.

The deadlock was broken after 28 minutes when referee Hanlon awarded Duns a rather soft penalty for a challenge by Gordon McInnes challenge and Jordan Lauder converted to give Duns the lead.

Eyemouth were tested again by the ever busy Duns striker Michael Robinson but Mutch in the Eyemouth goal brilliantly saved to keep the score at just 1-0 at the interval.

The teams returned for the second half and again it was the Mutch and Robinson show early on with the Fishermen’s keeper continuing to frustrate the Duns forward.

Eyemouth drew level on 53 minutes when a great ball from Aidan Lauder found Sean Campbell who made no mistake in shooting past Tansey.

Chances continued to fall to both teams but Adam Mutch in particular was having a fantastic game in the Eyemouth goal to keep Duns out and the match went into extra time.

The first period saw the hard working Eyemouth team start to dominate and they took the lead from a free kick outside the box. Eyemouth substitute Lewis Mitchell confidently struck the ball but a cruel bounce just in front of Duns keeper Tansey saw the ball fly over his head to put Eyemouth 2-1 ahead.

Duns drew level in the second period through Lauder again who found himself unmarked in the box to hit the equaliser.

As penalties loomed Eyemouth did get one before the nail-biting ones were needed and Dean Walker sent Tansey the wrong way to put Eyemouth into the final where they will face leith athletic
